  Let 
  <em>G</em> be a locally compact group, 
  <em>H</em> a closed amenable subgroup and 
  <em>u</em> an element of the Herz Fig&#224;-Talamanca algebra of 
  <em>H</em> with compact support, we prove the existence of an extension of 
  <em>u</em> to 
  <em>G</em>, with a good control of the norm and of the support of the extension.

Introduction</title><p>Let G be a locally compact group and H a closed subgroup, this paper is concerned with the problem of extending coefficients of the regular representation of H to G. Suppose H normal in G. In 1973 [<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="scirp.51203-ref1">1</xref>] C. Herz proved that for <inline-formula><inline-graphic xlink:href="http://html.scirp.org/file/3-7402393-six5.png" xlink:type="simple"/></inline-formula> with compact support, for every <inline-formula><inline-graphic xlink:href="http://html.scirp.org/file/3-7402393-six6.png" xlink:type="simple"/></inline-formula> and for every U neighborhood of <inline-formula><inline-graphic xlink:href="http://html.scirp.org/file/3-7402393-six7.png" xlink:type="simple"/></inline-formula> in G there is <inline-formula><inline-graphic xlink:href="http://html.scirp.org/file/3-7402393-six8.png" xlink:type="simple"/></inline-formula> with<inline-formula><inline-graphic xlink:href="http://html.scirp.org/file/3-7402393-six9.png" xlink:type="simple"/></inline-formula>, <inline-formula><inline-graphic xlink:href="http://html.scirp.org/file/3-7402393-six10.png" xlink:type="simple"/></inline-formula>and<inline-formula><inline-graphic xlink:href="http://html.scirp.org/file/3-7402393-six11.png" xlink:type="simple"/></inline-formula>. In this work we want to treat the case of non normal subgroups. We succeed assuming that the subgroup H is amenable (Theorem 5). C. Fiorillo obtained [<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="scirp.51203-ref2">2</xref>] already this result assuming however the unimodularity of G and of H. But the AN part of the Iwasawa decomposition of <inline-formula><inline-graphic xlink:href="http://html.scirp.org/file/3-7402393-six12.png" xlink:type="simple"/></inline-formula> was out of reach. Even for G amenable our result is new: the case of the non-normal copy of <inline-formula><inline-graphic xlink:href="http://html.scirp.org/file/3-7402393-six13.png" xlink:type="simple"/></inline-formula> in the <inline-formula><inline-graphic xlink:href="http://html.scirp.org/file/3-7402393-six14.png" xlink:type="simple"/></inline-formula>-group was also out of reach.</p><p>Without control of norm and support of the extension, the theorem has been obtained in 1972 by McMullen [<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="scirp.51203-ref3">3</xref>] . With control of the norm, but not considering the supports, the statement is due Herz [<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="scirp.51203-ref1">1</xref>] (see also [<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="scirp.51203-ref4">4</xref>] ).</p></sec><sec id="s2"><title>2. A Property of Amenable Subgroups</title><p>We denote by <inline-formula><inline-graphic xlink:href="http://html.scirp.org/file/3-7402393-six15.png" xlink:type="simple"/></inline-formula> the set of all complex valued continuous functions on G with compact support. We choose a positive continuous function q on G such that<inline-formula><inline-graphic xlink:href="http://html.scirp.org/file/3-7402393-six16.png" xlink:type="simple"/></inline-formula>, left invariant measures on G and H and a measure <inline-formula><inline-graphic xlink:href="http://html.scirp.org/file/3-7402393-six17.png" xlink:type="simple"/></inline-formula> on <inline-formula><inline-graphic xlink:href="http://html.scirp.org/file/3-7402393-six18.png" xlink:type="simple"/></inline-formula> as in Chapter 8 of [<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="scirp.51203-ref5">5</xref>] . The following Lemma will be used in the proof of our main result.
