ABSTRACT: Theinvasionofthemandiblebyoralsquamouscellcarcinomahasbeenfirmlydemonstratedbyanatomicalandhistologicalstudies.Althoughsquamouscellcarcinomasmayinduceresorptionoftherootsofstandingteeth,therehavebeennoreportsofthemalsocausingresorptionofthecrownsofteeth. A73-year-oldpatientpresentedwithaninvadingbuccalsquamouscellcarcinoma. Radiologicalinvestigationsshowedtumourinvasionofthedentateregionoftheleftmandibleandresorptionofthecrownsofrightandleftmandibularimpactedthirdmolars. Thepatientunderwentaleftsegmentalmandibulectomyandhistopathologicalexaminationoftheresectedspecimenrevealedresorptionoftheenamelanddentineofanuneruptedimpactedthirdmolarcloselyassociatedwiththeinfiltratingtumour. Thusinfiltratingcarcinomasmayrarelycauseresorptionofthecrownsaswellastherootsofuneruptedteethandcanbeavaluablemarkeroftheextentofspreadofatumourfortheplanningofcompletesurgicalresection. Thesedentalchangesmustbedistinguishedradiologicallyfromidiopathicchangesinuneruptedteethintheabsenceofmalignancy.
