ABSTRACT: Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) time-of-flight mass spectrometry was applied to a non-conven-tional object–highly ordered carbyne films. Mass spectra of both positive and negative ions were recorded in all tests. The spectra had a rather high number of hydrogen atom peaks and specific features indicative of hydrogen acting as a requisite stabilizer in the crystalline carbyne structure. A new model based on interchain dihydrogen bonds was proposed.
