ABSTRACT: This study set out to assess the effect of fiscal policy and government spending on the economic growth of Burundi. It was based on two research hypotheses, namely: There is no significant effect of fiscal policy and government spending on the economic growth of Burundi, and there is a significant effect of fiscal policy and government spending on the economic growth of Burundi. The results indicated that there is a weak positive and non-significant relationship between fiscal policy and economic growth, and a strong positive and significant relationship between government spending and economic growth. The results also revealed that the null hypothesis was rejected while the alternative hypothesis was accepted. The study recommended that there is a need for the Burundi government to invest a lot in the production sector rather than allocating a lot of its budget to consumption services in order not to depend almost only on taxes.
