ABSTRACT: In Burkina Faso, domestic cooking relies mainly on the use of solid fuels, particularly charcoal, with devices that are often inefficient. This study aims to test and analyze the thermal behavior of a rotary oven using organic charcoal briquettes and charcoal. The oven developed comprises an insulated combustion chamber made of compressed earth bricks (CEB), a cooking chamber equipped with a rotating bar and a grate, and a storage system that can be filled with sand. A series of thermal tests was conducted with fuel loads ranging from 1 to 3 kg. Temperatures were recorded using K-type thermocouples connected to a data logger. The results showed that charcoal causes a rapid rise in temperature, while organic charcoal offers more stable and prolonged combustion. The entire device has potential for optimization to improve the energy efficiency of rural cooking systems.
