ABSTRACT: Ineffective innovative technology implementation poses significant risks to an organization’s stability by weakening employee engagement and productivity. Middle managers who struggle to implement innovative technology effectively may experience organizational instability. Grounded in the technology-organization-environment framework and motivation-hygiene theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry research project was to identify and explore effective strategies used by middle managers to implement innovative technology into their employees’ work processes to improve employee engagement and productivity. The participants were nine middle managers who had effective innovative technology implementation strategies. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and secondary data from publicly available sources. Using thematic analysis, five themes were identified: (a) instructional design and skill support, (b) evaluation and continuous feedback, (c) leadership behavior, (d) collaborative environments and psychological safety, and (e) environmental-organizational adaptability. A key recommendation is for business leaders to prioritize a human-centered perspective when implementing technological innovation. The implications for positive social change may include the potential for business leaders to enable a broader society to learn how to adapt as technological innovation advances fostering a healthier, more resilient workforce and contribute to economic stability within communities.
