ABSTRACT: Messaging services represent an essential communication medium even in today’s telecommunications. Short Message Service (SMS) traffic can be classified into Person-to-Person (P2P) and Application-to-Person (A2P) messaging, where A2P SMS enables automated message delivery from applications and organizations to end users. This study presents the design and implementation of an experimental framework for the simulation, management, and analysis of international A2P SMS traffic. The proposed environment integrates an SMS Gateway platform with MATLAB, Microsoft SQL Server, and an SMS Agent to reproduce the main processing stages of an A2P SMS management system. The framework enables the generation of international SMS traffic, database-based traffic management and the evaluation of filtering mechanisms for mobile number validation and message content analysis. The experimental evaluation shows that the proposed framework is capable to analyze A2P SMS traffic behavior and assess the impact of optimization mechanisms on message processing. The obtained results highlight the importance of traffic validation and filtering approaches in improving the efficiency and the reliability of processes, on A2P SMS management systems.
