ABSTRACT: As a vital venue for cultural communication, museums rely heavily on accurate English translations of in-house commentaries to guarantee effective cross-cultural exchange. Taking the English translated commentaries from Shaanxi Opera Art Museum of China as its research corpus, this paper conducts an analysis of museum commentaries through the linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions, grounded in the Adaptation and Selection Theory of Eco-translatology. The study reveals that several flaws persist in certain translated commentaries, which demand further translational adaptation and selection. Corresponding revision strategies are therefore proposed in this paper to improve the quality of their English renderings and facilitate more robust cultural exchange.
