ABSTRACT: With time the rate of domestic violence is escalating and it remains a pervasive issue in society with intricate causes and devastating consequences. This paper which is based on secondary data investigates whether patriarchal mindset in families along with the role of socio-economic factors serve as a primary or root cause of domestic violence. By analysing these intersecting causes, this study highlights how patriarchy, deeply embedded in society today and economic instability jointly sustain cycles of violence. These claims are supported by thorough research and documented evidence. The paper also explores profound consequences focusing on the mental health damage that domestic violence causes to the victims as well as the rest of the family.
