ABSTRACT: This study evaluates the physicochemical and microbiological quality of 12 domestic wells near lakes in three neighborhoods of Yamoussoukro in Ivory Coast, with one tap-water sample used as a control. Using in-situ measurements and culture-based microbiological tests, the authors report high mesophilic aerobic counts in all wells, fecal coliforms in several wells, and frequent Salmonella detection. The paper concludes that the sampled well waters are unsuitable for human consumption without prior treatment.
