ABSTRACT: The overseas dissemination of Chinese literature has achieved a certain level of breakthrough in terms of cross-border communication scale. However, how to attain deep acceptance and value recognition in cross-cultural contexts remains a noteworthy issue. Japan and South Korea, as fellow members of the Northeast Asian cultural sphere, have accumulated practical experience in the cross-border dissemination of their literatures, which holds academic reference value for further research on the overseas dissemination of Chinese literature. Based on this, this paper employs literature analysis and case analysis to outline the practical characteristics and several challenges encountered in the overseas dissemination of Japanese and Korean literatures. It then examines the existing foundations of Chinese literature’s overseas dissemination across institutional, industrial, cultural, technological, and market dimensions, as well as certain shortcomings in areas such as original content supply, translation and introduction systems, copyright protection mechanisms, and cross-cultural acceptance. Using Lasswell’s 5W communication model as the analytical framework, this paper proposes several strategic directions from the five dimensions of communicator, content, channel, audience, and effect. The aim is to provide theoretical references for enhancing the effectiveness and deepening the development of Chinese literature’s overseas dissemination, thereby contributing to the improvement of its international communication efficiency and cross-cultural influence.
