ABSTRACT: Welding is the standard assembly technique in metal construction, and its quality depends on the proper execution of the operation. Weld joint analysis involves implementing inspection techniques to verify, without destructive testing, the condition of the weld bead and detect any surface or internal defects. This research aims to evaluate the condition of the weld bead. We analyzed internal and surface defects after non-destructive testing on metallic samples (visual inspection, dye penetrant testing, and radiographic testing). The results show that defects are less frequent in thinner materials. Conversely, in thicker materials, defects are more numerous, and their frequency increases with thickness. These observations were experimentally verified. Defects are often related to multiple welding passes, welder qualifications, or material selection. This analysis can contribute to improving inspection techniques, thus facilitating the localization of irregularities and reducing defects during welding operations.
