ABSTRACT: Professional autonomy is teachers’ basic rights, and is the key of preschool teachers’ professional development. In this study, a questionnaire survey was conducted on the situation of professional autonomy of 564 preschool teachers in S City, Jiangsu Province. The results show the ideal and actual conditions of democratic management autonomy were both assigned the lowest scores, and the gap between the two was the largest. Moreover, there are differences between individual teachers and preschools in professional autonomy. Aiming at the results, it is suggested that the state should establish a sound legal system to protect teachers’ professional autonomy. Strengthen the professional training of teachers to improve the awareness and ability of professional autonomy. Improve the preschool management system to effectively implement teachers’ professional autonomy.
