ABSTRACT: The untimely departure of Sheikh Hasina, a dominant figure in Bangladeshi politics and the longest-serving Prime Minister in the nation’s history, could mark a pivotal shift in South Asia’s geopolitical dynamics, particularly in the context of India-Bangladesh relations. As the head of the Awami League, Hasina has played a crucial role in fostering strong bilateral ties with India, especially in areas of trade, connectivity, and security cooperation. Her absence from the political landscape may lead to significant changes in Bangladesh’s foreign policy direction. This paper explores how her exit might influence future cooperation between the two nations, with particular focus on economic partnerships, cross-border infrastructure projects, and unresolved issues like water sharing from the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers. Furthermore, it examines the potential emergence of new political forces in Dhaka and their likely stance on regional diplomacy and security. A leadership transition in Bangladesh may prompt India to reassess its strategic approach to maintain regional stability and economic alignment. The paper aims to provide a holistic understanding of how a post-Hasina era might reshape the trajectory of India-Bangladesh relations and influence broader South Asian geopolitics.
