  ABSTRACT: This narrative review examines the integration of psychological theories within the design of artificial intelligence (AI), specifically in the context of Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence (HCAI). Focusing on literature published from 2020 to 2025, the review discusses critical psychological aspects influencing AI usability, user trust, emotional resonance, cognitive load management, and ethical implementation. Major themes include Theory of Mind (ToM), emotional intelligence, cognitive adaptation, user-centred and human-centred design approaches, applications of AI in mental health, and ethical frameworks guiding AI deployment. The review emphasizes the importance of psychologically-informed AI design in enhancing user interactions, reducing cognitive demands, fostering trust, and ensuring ethical integrity. Future research recommendations stress the need for empirical validation across diverse contexts and longitudinal studies to refine psychological integration into AI systems further.
