ABSTRACT: This paper critically examines the intricate relationship between the production of electric vehicles (EVs) and global resource depletion, highlighting the economic, environmental, and supply chain implications of this rapidly evolving industry. Leveraging extensive research by Prof. Dr. Eckard Helmers and other scholars, this study explores the multifaceted processes involved in EV battery production, which requires significant quantities of essential materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel. As governments worldwide advocate for the adoption of EVs to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, this analysis underscores the challenges posed by resource scarcity and potential supply chain disruptions. Furthermore, this paper evaluates the economic viability of EVs, contrasting their long-term operational benefits with the initial resource-intensive manufacturing costs. Ultimately, these findings illuminate the dualistic nature of EVs as both a sustainable alternative to internal combustion engines and a catalyst for increased resource demand, prompting a reevaluation of their role in global economic frameworks and environmental strategies.
