ABSTRACT: Shadow education in Bangladesh primarily encompasses private tuition and coaching. This type of education is becoming increasingly encouraging as it aims to achieve the highest academic grades. Private tuition and coaching tend to be encouraged, correspondingly not only for students but also for parents, both in rural and urban areas. The main aim of this study was to learn about shadow education and respondents’ perceptions of the shadow education system at the secondary school certificate level. Data were collected through the use of tools and techniques of the social survey method. A structured questionnaire was followed, in which open-ended and closed-ended questions were included in the data collection. Most of the respondents came from a science background with the best academic grades. Respondents studied maximum subjects and spent more time on private tuition and coaching in a day. The respondents had positive and negative opinions regarding private tuition and coaching. But the reality was that not only respondents but also their parents showed positive attitudes toward shadow education for many reasons. So, practically, they felt that shadow education contributed to the best results for the respondents.
