ABSTRACT: This study aims to investigate the manner in which SLR significantly affects the social and ecological systems of coastal communities in Bangladesh on a regional and global level, as well as possible hazards, problems, and repercussions. The adverse effects of rising waters are especially worrisome because the Bay of Bengal is so close to the southern region of the country. Compared with the global SLR, this study will primarily concentrate on two geographical areas: the districts of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, and Potuakhali in Bangladesh. For this study, a questionnaire, focus group discussions, and KII were used to examine the scenarios related to the local and global causes and effects of SLR using two different types of data sources: secondary and primary. The use of satellite altimetry for sea level measurement was also revolutionized. Bangladesh’s islands could be submerged by 2100 due to a potential 0.4 - 1.5 m rise in sea level, according to the study’s key findings. By 2050, increasing sea levels would force 20 million people to leave their homes as roughly 17% of Bangladesh will be under water.
