ABSTRACT: The concept of “telling Chinese stories well” has emerged as a significant and prominent issue in recent times. Grounded in the theory of international communication, this thesis undertakes an in-depth analysis of the current state and influencing factors of college students’ competence to “tell Chinese stories well”. Subsequently, it proposes a set of countermeasures and recommendations. The research is primarily centered around the aspects of cultural literacy, English language competence, and intercultural critical thinking skills. Data collection was achieved through the utilization of questionnaires and interviews. The findings of this thesis indicate that the overall competence of college students to “tell Chinese stories well” in English is at a moderate level. Based on these results, it is suggested that English instructors should implement relevant measures to enhance students’ proficiency in this regard.
