ABSTRACT: This study examined the impact of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) on the livelihoods of Women waste pickers, specifically through the lens of Empowerment theory, Collective action theory, and Sustainable livelihood theory, using a case study of “Recyclage Solitaire” located in Douala, Cameroon. This study was sparked by the insufficient research in this field, which created a knowledge gap that hampered the concept’s propagation in Cameroon. This study uses a mixed method approach and draws on interviews, questionnaires, participant observations, and document analysis to understand how Self-Help Groups (SHGs) enhance collective strength, skill development, and income diversification using “Recyclage Solidaire” as a case study. The study highlights improved access to resources and empowerment but notes challenges such as limited collaboration with NGOs and access to formal credits.
