ABSTRACT: Background: Policy documents such as the Outline of the Healthy China 2030 Plan and the Action Plan on Further Improving Nursing Services (2023-2025) issued in China have emphasized the concept of humanistic care in the field of nursing. Therefore, it is the demand of future nursing development to train nurses with humanistic care ability. In recent years, narrative nursing as a humanistic nursing method has been applied in clinical practice teaching of nursing interns, opening up a new way to carry out nursing humanistic teaching. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of narrative nursing education on the quality of humanistic care for clinical nursing interns. Methods: A total of 128 nursing interns in a tertiary general hospital in Guangzhou, China from July 2023 to December 2023 were selected as the study subjects. According to the teaching arrangement, they were divided into 63 cases in the experimental group and 65cases in the control group using a random number table. The control group used the traditional internship teaching method, and the experimental group implemented the narrative nursing teaching model based on the traditional internship teaching method. Nursing Caring Characters Assessment Tool was used to evaluate the nursing interns in both groups before and 6 months after the intervention. Results: The results showed that the total score of humanistic caring quality and the scores of humanistic caring perception and humanistic caring ability dimensions of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P P > 0.05). Conclusion: Narrative nursing education has a positive effect on improving nursing interns’ humanistic care perception and humanistic care ability.
