ABSTRACT: Young returned educators are a vital segment of university faculty, significantly contributing to the growth and advancement of higher education institutions. Nevertheless, they often encounter challenges in adjusting to the pedagogical and scholarly practices due to variances in operational norms between domestic and international universities. This research, grounded in field theory, explores the teaching, scholarly, and administrative dimensions within universities. It includes an empirical investigation through interviews with 16 young returnee educators in the humanities and social sciences across six universities in Zhejiang Province. The focus of this paper is on identifying and analyzing the professional development impediments faced by these educators, offering recommendations for enhancing their career trajectories within the university context, considering national, institutional, and individual perspectives.
