  ABSTRACT: Language and culture are inseparable. Teaching materials are not only the container of knowledge, but carry the mission of cultural communication. As the main source of students’ learning and teachers’ teaching, the content of textbooks plays a very important role in the cultivation of students’ knowledge and competence. This paper uses the different cultural classifications proposed by Zhang et al. and Zhang to study the structure of cultural content and the specific content of Chinese culture in PEP English textbooks in junior high school. On this basis, the author wishes to find out reasons for “aphasia of Chinese culture”, as well as fill the gap in academic research on textbooks for the lower grades, and provide some theoretical references for junior high school textbook writers.
