  ABSTRACT: There is a worldwide consensus that all kinds of addiction are on rise around the world. There are many types of addiction such as drug, alcohol, gambling, exercise, intimate, and etc. As well as types of addiction there are different factors affecting addiction. According to the literature addiction and recovery is influenced by many different factors. Many studies have focused on psychological and biological factors on addiction. In addition to psychological and biological factors sociological influences are also effective on addiction. Due to sociological factors, individuals and the whole society become vulnerable. Thus, it is important to discuss sociological influences on addiction. In this study, sociological influences such as culture and ethnicity will be reviewed and discussed.
