ABSTRACT: The debate about whether linguistics is a science
or arts has lasted for quite long time. We argue that the interdisciplinary
nature of linguistics is an appropriate answer based on the exploration of the
study scopes of major branches in linguistics, such as computational
linguistics, psycholinguistics, second language acquisition, social linguistics
etc. Besides, the analysis of research methods used by major linguists also
proof our argument. In the end, we conclude that the interdisciplinary nature
of linguistics is more suitable.
