ABSTRACT: In cross-cultural communication, “native cultural aphasia” is a significant manifestation of cultural inconfidence. Under the grand strategy of “Chinese culture going global”, public English teaching in colleges and universities should not only pay attention to students’ second language acquisition, but also shoulder the important task of humanities education, guide students to cultivate cultural consciousness and strengthen cultural self-confidence on the basis of foreign language acquisition, and provide impetus and energy support for the continuous and effective value education through college English courses. Taking “cultural aphasia” as the starting point, this paper attempts to explore the ideas and directions for enhancing cultural self-confidence from the aspects of cultural ability improvement, teaching content reform and innovation, teacher teaching ability improvement, teaching evaluation reform, strengthening of foreign cultural exchanges, and improvement of national cultural image.
