ABSTRACT: The results of the study show that the management of household solid waste is insufficient. It was found that 12% of households only subscribe to private pre-collection operators, 38% contract their waste to informal structures, and 50% evacuate their waste themselves. Sorting or any other separate waste treatment is not applied, and landfills do not conform to norms of sustainable management. The main consequence is the proliferation of anarchic deposits of solid household waste. However, 95% of households surveyed are aware that household solid waste can have impacts on health and the environment. It was also found that solid waste collection and pre-collection activities are significant sources of revenue but need to be structured. The results also show that the attitude of households towards waste management varies according to the status of the habitat.
