ABSTRACT: Introduction: Intrapericardial teratoma is a rare tumor usually diagnosed in newborns, generally affecting children under one year old. We report a case in an infant revealed by cardiac tamponade. Observation: This is a male newborn, 3 weeks old, with no notion of parental consanguinity. The pregnancy was followed with 4 prenatal consultations, no particularities on the assessments carried out, no ultrasound done, and was born vaginally after 37 SA + 3 days. He shows good psychomotor development and good somatic growth. He received a picture of global heart failure with signs of tamponade. Two-dimensional echocardiography revealed an intrapericardial mass (51 mm × 38 mm) with abundant pericardial effusion compressing the heart. Complete surgical resection was performed without complications. Tumor histology confirmed the diagnosis of intrapericardial teratoma. The evolution was favorable with regression of all clinical signs after resection. Conclusion: Teratomas are rare primary cardiac tumors generally diagnosed in newborns and infants. They are usually benign tumors but can be life-threatening due to pericardial effusion and cardiac compression.
