ABSTRACT: This paper, by the contrastive case study on Chinese source text and its English version of the report of the 19th national congress of the communist party of China (CPC), means to demonstrate and testify the properness in choice of words and expressions as well as the consistency in meaning with the source in translation from the perspectives of faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance. In general, it is characterized by six parts, namely introduction, the distinctiveness of the political discourse, the Chinese traditional translation theory, the characteristics of the report, the contrastive case study and conclusion.
