ABSTRACT: Relevance theory is a research field of pragmatics in linguistics, which was first proposed by Sperber and Wilson in 1986. Later, Gutt introduced Relevance Theory into the field of translation in 1991. Based on cognitive environment, ostensive-inferential communication and optimal relevance, this paper analyses the translation of President Xi Jinping’s speech delivered at a Ceremony Marking the Centenary of the Communist Party of China on July 1, 2021. After the research, this paper hopes to promote the speech to play a positive role in serving the international dissemination of political discourse and helping the international community to correctly understand Chinese political policy. In addition, it is also conducive to enhancing the international recognition of the socialist road with Chinese characteristics and improving the soft power of national culture.
