ABSTRACT: The vocational education plays an important role in Chinese education system. Under the guidance of government, local normal universities enter the field of vocational education in response of this reform process. It is not only the strategic demand of higher education reform, but also the internal demand of the transformation and development of local normal universities. The new industrial revolution has put forward higher requirements for the abilities of vocational education teachers. This paper adopts SWOT method to analyze the internal and external circumstances and challenges to local normal university in cultivating excellent vocational education teachers. Appropriate strategies are discussed for local normal university to cultivate excellent vocational education teachers. Based on normal education, through major construction and multi-dimensional collaboration, excellent vocational education teachers with “normal nature, academic nature and professional nature” will be trained. The pattern of “one body with two wings” will not only promote scientific and sustainable development, but also enhance the local normal university’s core competitiveness and the ability to serve the society effectively.
