ABSTRACT: As the quickest access for readers to get the key of the content, news headline translation has aroused more and more researchers’ attention. Different from other studies on this subject, this paper studies the English to Chinese translation strategies of news headlines by analyzing 137 English to Chinese headlines concerning coronavirus pandemic from “Language Tips” in China Daily Website. The two translation strategies (imitation and variation) primarily adopted in the selected news headlines are clarified, and specific translation methods under these two strategies are further discussed based on Chesterman’s Translation Ethics.
