ABSTRACT: The Egyptian economy is one of the most diversified economies in the MENA region. During the past decades, various consecutive phases have been adopted targeting a comprehensive structural economic reform which resulted in a market-oriented economy, a liberalized stock market and a strong private sector. The shadow economy has a distorting effect on the accuracy of the country’s official records and statistics and affects the state’s fiscal and monetary policies. In this concern, the government should gain from the positive side of the shadow economy by merging it with the official one. Accordingly, this guarantees best results for all concerned parties.
