  ABSTRACT: The study was based on 205 valid questionnaires and we used a series of regression analysis to examine the effect of perceived overqualification (POQ) on work engagement (WE) and the associated underlying mechanism. The results show that: 1) POQ was negatively related to WE; 2) The relationship between POQ and WE was partially mediated by Thriving at work (WT); 3) Future work self salience (FWSS) moderated the relationship between POQ and WT, such that this relationship was not significant when FWSS was high.
