ABSTRACT: This paper considers the relationship between Shanghai port logistics and regional
economic growth. Vector autoregression (VAR) model, Granger causality
test, impulse response functions(IRF) are used based on the statistical
data of Shanghai for the years from 1990 to 2017. The results indicate a
long-term equilibrium relationship among variables. Besides, cargo throughput
and container throughput, the chosen indexes to study port logistics exist
a bidirectional causality. Cargo throughput is unidirectionally causal to economic
growth.
