ABSTRACT: This paper analyzes various government policies in Kenya and how they influence business environment, with close comparisons with Botswana. Kenya is a major economic player in sub-Sahara Africa and often touted as a gateway to Africa. On the other hand Botswana is one of the few middle income countries in Africa and a beckon of democracy in Africa. The paper explores government policies and their effects to business environment in Kenya and the lessons that can be learned from Botswana as Kenya aspires to become a Middle income country by the year 2030.
