ABSTRACT: The consumption of cooling and heating energy and the methods of heating and cooling used in
large public buildings are analyzed in this paper. A comparison between initial investment and
operation costs of heat pump and traditional heating modes used in large public buildings is also
introduced. A life cycle cost (LCC) mathematical model is established to analyze the main factors
that affect the LCC including the advantages and disadvantages of heat pumps currently in use.
Some suggestions about heating and cooling modes applied in large buildings in different geographical
areas are given in this paper.
