ABSTRACT: Smart phone applications (apps) for radiologists are on the rise. Not only do they assist the radiologist in reference to information but they can also aid in their day-to-day functioning too most notably through image viewing apps known as Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) viewers. These kinds of apps signal a transition towards an increasingly mobile medical environment in what could be an exciting but cautious time for radiologists as these apps are not without their own concerns. In this review we provide basic information on how to create an app, highlight the current state of play of pivotal radiology apps and discuss the legal issues surrounding them.
