Functional Ecology and Ecosystem Functioning

Functional Ecology and Ecosystem Functioning examines the relationships between organismal traits, ecological processes, species interactions, and the performance of ecosystems. Major themes include functional traits, biodiversity, species coexistence, ecological niches, community assembly, trophic interactions, nutrient cycling, energy flow, productivity, decomposition, ecosystem stability, resilience, and ecosystem responses to environmental change. The topic also considers how functional diversity and species composition influence ecosystem processes and services across different spatial and temporal scales, with applications in biodiversity conservation, ecological restoration, climate change research, and sustainable ecosystem management.
