Sergey S. Chernyanskii is an independent environmental professional involved in applied research and consultancy in many countries and regions of the world. The major part of his research has focused on soils—their genesis, evolution and dynamics, classification, spatial patterns, erosion and contamination. Dr. Chernyanskii applies scientific knowledge about soils in areas such as environmental assessment of sites and impacts (not only on soils but also on terrestrial habitats) as well as development and performance monitoring of measures to conserve and restore soils and the ecosystem services they provide.
